With the kitchen increasingly becoming the focal point of our home, creating the perfect environment in which to cook, eat, relax and even work is a tall order.
The quality of your kitchen fitter can make or break your new kitchen. A poor fitter will ruin a good kitchen and a good fitter will improve a cheaper kitchen so finding the right one is vital.
Glass worktops can create a stunning effect. Coloured glass can be used which is non-porous, heat resistant and easy to keep clean. Incredibly hardwearing and incredibly original. Recylcled glass can be used to create a totally unique effect.
People often worry that Stainless Steel worktops scratch but this is part of their beauty, the first scratch may drive you mad but over time they soften and take on a life of their own. Zinc wortops can be fashioned to create stunning countertops which revive a bygone era.
For many Granite worktops are the epitome of style and elegance. They are certainly eternally popular and help create a timeless, elegant appearance for any kitchen. Granite can be shaped, curved and polished with under-mounted sinks, drainage grooves and areas or honed for a more matt appearance.
Probably the best known is Corian although a number of other manufacturers offer solid surface worktops. The solid material (acrylics and plastics) is usually between 6 and 15mm over a substructure of MDF or dual core chipboard.
Laminate worktops offer an affordable and very practical solution. Modern tops are very hard-wearing and as long as treated sensibly will with-stand the rigours of modern life.
Hardwood worktops will need treating with Danish Oil or Linseed Oil and you should speak to your supplier to find out how frequently your tops will need re-oiling. Minor dents and damage can be easily repaired with wax sticks but hot plates, pots and pans should always be placed onto trivets or hot-rods.
The range of functions can be pretty confusing on modern ovens but taking some time to workout what is available and most importantly how you will use it and knowing what you like to cook will really help you choose the best oven for you.
Most people know that cooking with steam is great for vegetables but Steam Ovens are actually far more versatile with pretty much the only thing you can’t cook being popcorn.
