The ’990′ is the next big thing in range cookers from ESSE

The newly launched 990 range cooker is the latest product to come from master British stove maker ESSE.

With three large capacity ovens, it offers a huge 112 litre cooking volume. Surprisingly with this capacity, the beautiful ESSE 990 remains one of Britain’s most energy-efficient range cookers. The wood-burning/mineral-fuel 990 heats quickly from cold, meaning it does not have to remain continuously on – saving significant costs, both to your pocket and the environment.

Available with a domestic hot water boiler or as a cooker only, ESSE’s 990 incorporates the company’s distinctive ‘dog bone’ hotplate but it has now been enhanced to accommodate six pans or more – perfect for the big family.

The 990 is so-called because of its size: at 990mm wide, this stately cooker is the ideal feature for bigger homes, but its dimensions also ensure it will fit perfectly within any fitted kitchen.

Its stylish firebox features a secondary glass door, enabling the flames to be admired while allowing extra heat into the room. If using clean, untreated wood – you can even barbecue directly over the flames, with all cooking smells disappearing straight up the flue!

Drawing on classic ESSE styling from the 1930s, the 990 combines vintage aesthetics with practical, modern touches such as a stainless steel towel rail and easy-shut door handles.

ESSE has been hand-crafting quality stoves since 1854 – making it Britain’s oldest manufacturer by far. The Lancashire-based company’s impressive client list includes Florence Nightingale, explorers Shackleton and Scott and, more recently, the famous team at River Cottage.
